The Story of Alexa  Soprano, piano 2005

Once in a while I write songs for my family.  This was written for my beautiful niece for her 5th birthday and came with a book of photos and lyrics.  My niece loves musicals, and had a special love for “The Sound of Music” at the time so I threw in a quotation toward the end of the song.

Once upon a time

You were just a cell or two

Your parents said, “We must make a room,

Find a crib; someone is coming soon.”

Who will it be?

Waiting….

August 26 a breath she took

Soon to be in mommy’s arms

Her daddy drew near

They held her close

A miracle life – creation’s song

Singing…. Singing….

Looking up at the people of the world

Holding your little feet in one hand

Even at the age of two,

She would see a band-aid on you

She would ask,

“Does it hurt?”

Look, she’s five, on wheels she flies

Likes to hug her brother

Hold him tight, hold him tight

“When you know the notes to sing,

You can sing most anything…”
