Can You Hear Me Now 2008

It is clear that cell phones are a necessity for most people.  They can be used in a variety of ways, and I wrote this as a reflection on some of the more annoying qualities they invoke in people.

Can you hear me now?                                         music and lyrics by Kaeza Fearn ©2008

Can you hear me now?

Can you hold I’ve got another call.

Sorry but I have to get this.

Is that your phone or mine?

You’re going in and out.

You’re breaking up

A young girl twirling by her mother’s side

Her mom techno-seduced

A twirl, a glance, head down, girl dance

You’ll have your own phone soon, dear,

This odd shape creeping out your ear.

Yes, now anyone can sit or stand or walk most anywhere

And prattle on and on and on about their latest house repair

Or what they’ll eat for dinner, and whether here or there.

You’re breaking up

What did you say?

I can’t hear you

Are you there?

We are speaking cell to cell:

Do you like this umbilical cordless you’ve fastened so tightly to your own dread of solitude?

Are you happy being an insta-vibra-buzz away?

Have you heard your angry friends:

“I called you. Why didn’t you pick up?”

But maybe your phone is taking vacation

From Codependence Co--creation

Filled with crackly craze, cramped calls, capricious cutoffs.

Maybe it’s carsick from car crash causing chances.

Our comatose accumulation

Cultivates self-condemnation

Can we curb the carbonation cost

Of a coddling procreation?

Can you hear me now?

Can you hold I’ve got another call.

Sorry but I have to get this.

Is that your phone or mine?

You’re going in and out.

You’re breaking up

I can’t hear you

I just can’t hear you

What the?

Can you hear me now?
